We invited the judges from Hackathon '25 to join a special webinar where they shared their reflections on this year’s judging experience - and gave us a sneak peek at what’s coming for the 2026 edition!
Here’s what they covered:
-
@Dave led a deep dive into the judging criteria- what each criterion means, and why it matters for building a strong threat model
-
@Qasim and @roberthurlbut shared the “wow” factors - what made certain submissions stand out (a lot of teams impressed!)
-
@Dave also highlighted common pitfalls and challenges - key areas where all the teams can improve for next year
-
@irene221b offered some tips for future participants
-
@swierckx shared what’s next in 2026 – a full refresh is coming, with major changes that will redefine what a threat modeling hackathon looks like (something never done before in the history of any threat modeling hackathon in the industry!).

About Hackathon ‘25
Over 200 members of our community participated in Hackathon '25 this April. During this three-week, team-based challenge, participants created threat models for a smart car using any frameworks or formats they preferred, and presented their models, along with recommendations, to a CISO in their final deliverable.
